World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys. While the burden of kidney disease worldwide is very high:

  • 1 in 10 people worldwide have kidney disease
  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) kills 1.2 million people every year.
  • CKD is the 8th leading cause of death in women
  • CKD is the 7th cause of death from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)

The good news is that most kidney diseases are preventable and that is why we promote awareness, education and early detection. World Kidney Day is celebrated on every second Thursday of March, making the 2018 edition fall on March 8.

This year we call on Google to support World Kidney Day!

Have you ever noticed that sometimes Google’s search page looks different? Well, that is because of Google Doodles. Google Doodles are “the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo” on the search page. Since 1998, over 2000 doodles have been created around the world to celebrate important dates. The team of Doodlers has created over 900 Doodles celebrating various people (from scientists to modern artists); International Women’s Day has been commemorated with Doodles 9 times, Earth Day 16 times, Valentine’s Day had 23 logos, but World Kidney Day hasn’t been mentioned yet. WE WANT TO CHANGE THIS. This year we want Google to create a logo honoring World Kidney Day.

Join our Thunderclap campaign if you want to see a change in the numbers representing kidney patients worldwide.

Google processes over 3.5 billion searches per day; with users from all over the world. This audience can become the change in the quest of raising awareness and advocating for prevention of kidney disease. We are calling on YOU to help us spread the word. Let’s make people aware and get a step closer to the world free from kidney disease!

Use #KidneyDoodle to bring awareness of Kidney Health worldwide! Tweet @Google using our hashtag, share our message, talk about #KidneyDoodle on your social media, any help is welcome. The more noise we can make, the more the chances that Google will hear us and create a Google Doodle for World Kidney Day.

Awareness is the first step towards kidney health – the more people we reach, the more people will know about kidney disease and will be able to make informed choices when it comes to prevention, detection, and best possible treatment.

Join our Thunderclap campaign and make some noise, let’s do it together!
