Public awareness and press conference on kidney disease on WKD24

On March 14, 2024, in celebration of World Kidney Day 2024, health education sessions were conducted for patients attending the Chronic Outpatient Department (OPD) at the University of Gondar Hospital. The majority of attendees were patients with diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) who were at the hospital for routine follow-up appointments. The event commenced at 8:30 AM with opening remarks delivered by Dr. Mequanint Melese, the chief clinical director. Subsequently, Dr. Gebrehiwot Lemma, an internist at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Gondar, provided health education on CKD prevalence, risk factors, and prevention methods. Dr. Workagegnehu Hailu, a nephrologist at the University of Gondar, delivered a keynote speech to the audience. A press release was issued to the local radio station to publicize the event. Additionally, blood pressure measurements were conducted for the attendees.The local radio stations and the University’s official facebook page streamed the event.
