This event was organised by  Rose Wakanyi Gitau who is a Nephrology Nurse and an AKF certified Kidney Health Coach.

The aim was to reach out to yet another (hard to reach) community and share prevention tips and offer  medical camp services.

Rose did the first WKD celebrations in 2023 in the rural setting and I purpose to do it annually for different communities.

It is in line with the spirit of my initiative’s slogan (Kidney and overall health of the community)

Rose worked in liason with community Health Assistants  and a few nurses who are colleagues from my facility and other far off facilities who are equally passionate about NCDs prevention.

We had a separate session for some teens (school going) and we send them out with kidney literacy information as WKD encourages us to introduce this basics to (6-16Yr old) learners.

Their session was crowned by a guidance and counselling session and the girls were more privileged to recieve a donation of sanitary towels from Betty Adera Foundation.

The community members appreciated the gesture and they gave us overwhelming feedback on how glad they were,to learn the basics of Kidney disease prevention.

I enjoy working in community setting as opposed to the Renal dialysis unit so as to have sustained interactions with the community Members and understand the risk factors and get to do primary and secondary prevention of Kidney disease.

Attached, please find a summary of the rest of the details.
