Free screening for kidney diseases was performed by nephrologists, nurses, dialysis therapists and students of the department to facilitate early detection of kidney diseases. On 2nd March 2017, a screening programme for high risk patients (diabetics and hypertensives) was held at the urban health centre, RN Palayam, Kasbah, Vellore, Tamil Nadu,India. 51 high risk patients underwent clinical examination, measurement of BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose and urine dipstick for protein and review of their personal, family and treatment history. 88% of patients screened were found to be obese using Asian Indian BMI cut offs, 10 patients were found to have dipstick positive for albumin and 3 patients were newly diagnosed with diabetes. All received instruction on lifestyle modification and optimization of their medications based on test results.
