The Department of Nephrology, Christian Medical College Vellore is celebrating World Kidney Day again this year.
Our activities include:
1. Public program in the hospital at 8am on 8th March to increase the awareness about kidney disease in those who attend the hospital and their relatives – we have over 8000 outpatients accompanied by their relatives. Many of these will participate.
2. The public program will be followed by a screening program consisting of Blood pressure measurement, Blood sugar measurement and urine dipstick testing to all who come to the Nephrology stalls. Those who come are then seen by a nephrologist – staff or trainee who counsels and advises appropriate referral.
3. There will be stalls exhibiting appropriate diet and lifestyle along with education about hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation.
4. The same afternoon, we plan to have a public awareness and interaction program for renal patients and their relatives.
5. There will be a quiz on nephrology open to staff and students of the College as well as a poster competition. These usually invite good participation from all. The best posters and winners of the quiz are awarded prizes and certificates during the public program.
