You can celebrate World Kidney Day by organizing an awareness activity in your community in any format you like. Past examples include: a walk, a bike ride, a run, a flash mob or a dance, a charity dinner or an educational class for pupils at your local school. Whatever you plan, you will help reach more people and make them aware of the importance of their kidneys. Make use of our Materials and Resources: use the logo, the fact sheets, and posters in your work, school or community center, or including links to or embedding them on your websites or web pages. We are thrilled to hear of your interest in wanting to organize an activity to celebrate World Kidney Day! Kindly note that World Kidney Day is a global campaign that aims to increase awareness of kidney health and kidney disease. We are in no position to provide any in-kind or financial support for activities or events that you are considering for World Kidney Day. Consider teaming up with local businesses instead and to include a fundraising activity in your WKD activity to support your organization (e.g. food market, bake sale, auction, runs). As far as activity collaterals (ex. t-shirts) are concerned, you can purchase World Kidney Day merchandise from our online shop or produce giveaways in your local print shop.

The WKD team is based in Brussels (Belgium) but you can consult the WKD map and the list of champions to find like-minded potential collaborators in your area. If you want to request an official WKD representative for example for a speaker slot, you might want to consider inviting a member of the WKD campaign’s steering committee whose members are based across the globe. Depending on the activity’s format and availability, a member could be interested in participating in your activity. You find the names of representatives here.

Activity map

In order to increase the visibility of your activity, generate a bigger turnout and find like-minded potential collaborators in your area, pin your activity to the WKD activity map. To do so, login and create your own account, you can then choose to submit your activity by filing the form. Review your activity details carefully before inserting them in the online form and double-check dates and times. The reason is that once accepted and published, it is very cumbersome for the campaign team to edit activities especially given the high volume of activities that are pinned every year.

If you require assistance in editing published activities, please email us at info@worldkidneyday.org with the WKD website URL of the activity in question and clearly indicate the edits that you would like to make.

Typically, your activity will be accepted by the website administrator and shown on the map within 5 working days. In the month leading up to World Kidney Day, we approve submissions within 24- 48 hours. One of the most common reasons for activities not displaying on the map is for the activity to be dated to the wrong year (e.g. 2023 instead of 2024). If you cannot see your activity after one week of submission, feel free to email us at info@worldkidneyday.org.

About this website

We would love to hear and share more about your WKD activities. To feature in the gallery on our website, please login and create an account, then you can choose to submit your photos and/or videos.  We approve submissions within 24- 48 hours. If your photos or videos do not appear in the gallery, do not hesitate to send us an email at  info@worldkidneyday.org. If you want to share more, you can fill in the event report template which we will upload to our impact report page. Innovative and impactful activities described in reports, are also added as “best ideas”. Finally, tag our social media profiles (Facebook: @World Kidney Day, X: @worldkidneyday; Instagram: @worldkidney_day, LinkedIn: @ World Kidney Day, YouTube: @WorldKidneyDay, and TikTok: @worldkidneyday_official) in your posts about your activity and we will share them on our channels.

Photos included in the impact report are selected following a number of considerations. Namely: regional balance, relevance to the category of events showcased, visibility of WKD logo and branding, image quality, and composition of photo in regards to the photo frame. Moreover, the report primarily showcases figures. In contrast, events, pictures, and regional work are showcased in other sections of the website, such as the photostream, event map, best ideas webpage, within the individual country/ regional reports, and on our social media channels.

The languages available on the WKD website are a minimum set of languages chosen based on a number of criteria, including location and primary language of WKD website users, regional balance, UN official language, number of WKD champions available for translation, language and country of WKD social media followers, and burden of disease in the country.
