ILBS Celebrates World Kidney Day on March 14, 2019 New Delhi, March 14th : “Saving a life is a matter of great honour. I am filled with pride for being able to donate my one Kidney to my husband who has been living on dialysis–said Ms. Kakoli (identity changed), in a program organized by Department of Nephrology & Renal Transplant , Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences on the eve of World Kidney Day on 14th March 2019. Dr Vasanthi Ramesh Director NOTTO, inaugurated the program and discussed the issue of poor deceased donor organ retrieval in India and emphasized the need for educating the public for organ donation. Dr. S. K Sarin, Director ILBS, highlighted the state of the art facilities for kidney patients including dialysis and renal transplantation He requested one and all to pledge for Organ Donation. Dr R.P Mathur, Head of Nephrology, ILBS addressed the public and emphasized the need for preventive health care and early detection of Kidney diseases. Dr (Maj Gen) DV Singh HOD Renal transplant & Urology discussed the benefits of kidney donation and stated that one brain dead person can give life to 8 patients with failure of various organs. Mr. Chirag Jain Hasya Kavi made the atmosphere lighter by his hilarious talk and said that Laughter is the best medicine to keep the BP under control and for prevention of kidney disease ! Around 200 persons were screened for Diabetes and Kidney diseases in a free health check up camp organized to mark the occasion. Free consultation with Nephrologist, Urologist, Dietician and Diabetic Educator was provided. A Puppet show with “Skit” on prevention of kidney disease was performed by nursing students of ILBS was highly applauded by the audience. On March 10, 2019 (Sunday) an ILBS outreach program was organized in Hauzrani village of Malviya Nagar in Delhi on the occasion of WKD . Public awareness lectures for prevention of Kidney disease and Organ donation were organized. Free Health Check up Camp was attended by around 150 persons.
