World Kidney Day 2024 – Hospital Kuala Lumpur

On 9th of March 2024, Nephrology Department of Hospital Kuala Lumpur participated in the National World Kidney Day 2024 celebration held in Lama Astaka, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. This event was jointly organized by Malaysian Society of Nephrology (MSN) and National Kidney Foundation (NKF). It was officiated by Dato’ Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Health of Malaysia. This celebration was kicked off by a Zumba group exercise done at 730am. 

We provided volunteers (Nurses, MAs, Paramedics, Medical Officers) for the health screening held there. This health screening was aimed at the public who visited Taman Tasik Titiwangsa on the morning and started at 730 in the morning. Main event of the day was Explorace which had participations from other hospitals and the public. First place of RM1000.00 cash prize was won by the team from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz UKM.

At the HKL Nephrology Department’s Booth, we conducted 2 educational games for the public to participate. It was very well received that by 10 o’clock in the morning, we have ran out of prizes to give to the public.

One of the highlights of the day was undeniably the forum on WKD 2024 hosted by Dr Fadhlina Zakaria, Nephrologist Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, UPM. The panels included Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar former Minister of Health Malaysia who is a currently a radio presenter for Hot FM. Dr Rafidah Abdullah who is Nephrologist and social media influencer from Hospital Putrajaya and Dr Norkasihan Ibrahim, Pharmacist Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, UiTM were also on the forum.

Dr Sunita Bavanandan, Head of Nephrology Department Hospital Kuala Lumpur was also invited for a live session on ‘Urine Charge Cakna Buah Pinggang’ held on TikTok Live MyHealthKKM on 13th of March 2024 for promote healthy kidneys amongst the public.

On 14th of March 2024, Nephrology Department Hospital Kuala Lumpur also held an exhibition booth in the lobby of Kompleks Pakar & Rawatan Harian (SCACC) Hospital Kuala Lumpur.  Posters on CKD prevention and management were put up for public viewing. The pharmacists also put up some posters on medications and education to the public. There were Buntings to highlight main agenda of World Kidney Day 2024 theme and the aims.

This time, the main attraction was Derma Organ booth which was conducted Unit Perolehan Organ Hospital (UPOH) Hospital Kuala Lumpur. It was very well received by the public and there were patients and family members who pledged for organ donation.

We also played videos by World Kidney Day on healthy kidneys and recording session of ‘Dialisis Tanpa Jarum’ by Dr Wan Hazlina Wan Mohamad, Nephrologist Hospital Kuala Lumpur which was held on TikTok Live MyHealthKKM on 14th February 2024.

On the same day, Dr Mohd Ramadhan Mohd Din was invited for a live radio session on Bernama Radio and Dr Azrini Abdul Aziz went for a recording session on BFM all to promote and raise awareness on World Kidney Day 2024.
