In India it can be very difficult to find clean toilets. Men often “go” where and when they like, but it is more difficult for girls who require some degree of privacy and security. Even when available, toilets are often filthy, and many girls develop urinary disorders and constipation from long hours of toilet-avoidance.
A survey io assess the magnitude of the problem has been launched. We will subsequently use the results to campaign for remedies. A month long awareness program leading upto a conference on this issue is planned on the 8th of March, – World Kidney Day, as well as International Women’s Day. We will involve school and college going girls, professional women as well as hygeine experts and policy makers.
