There is a global trend of increasing kidney diseases among the population, linked to the rising prevalence of diabetes, arterial hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. World Kidney Day has been observed annually on the second Thursday of March since 2006, aiming to enhance awareness of the importance of kidney health for overall well-being.

NUSOM and UMC create educational institutions and multidisciplinary innovative clinics, such as the Center for Maternity and Childhood, the Diagnostic Center and the Heart Center, and provide assistance to the adult and pediatric population in different regions of the country from the moment of diagnosis of kidney disease to the stages of kidney transplantation.
