In honor of World Kidney Day and International Women’s Day—March 8—the American Kidney Fund will hold a briefing entitled “Women and Kidney Disease,” focusing on ways that kidney disease affects women differently than it does men. Rep. Suzan DelBene, co-chair of the Congressional Kidney Caucus and a member of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, will provide opening remarks. Dr. Jessica Tangren, an American Kidney Fund Clinical Scientist in Nephrology whose research centers around pregnancy and kidney disease, will discuss the special challenges women with kidney disease face with pregnancy. Several members of AKF’s Advocacy Network will speak at the briefing as well, sharing their experiences of high-risk pregnancies with kidney disease and their roles as caregivers for family members with kidney disease. The event will be streamed on Facebook Live on AKF’s Facebook page.
