This year the World Kidney Day promotes education on Kidney Health for Everyone, Everywhere – from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care. Specifically, WKD calls on everyone to advocate for concrete preventive measures in every country to improve kidney care by encouraging to adopt healthy lifestyles (access to clean water, exercise, healthy diet, tobacco control. Many types of kidney diseases can be prevented, delayed and / or kept under control when appropriate prevention measures are in place. Sensitizing every individual of the world population on these preventive measures is one among the goals of physicians who care for patients with kidney diseases. The Dr.Mehta’s Hospitals at Chennai is a pioneer hospital over 85 years delivering quality healthcare to the society with commitment to the social responsibility of creating health awareness among general public. To honour this commitment the Department of Pediatric Nephrolgy of this Institution participates in the WKD every year. We, in the Department of Pediatric Nephrology of the Dr.Mehta’s Hospital pledge that “The best means to fight chronic kidney disease is prevention: it is thus paramount to identify and to treat possible and preventable risk factors, but reversing the tide will require concerted efforts not just from healthcare providers, but from the entire society”. We at Department of Pediatric Nephrolgy, underlines the importance of kidney awareness and prevention from early age. Taking place under tagline “ Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere” an awareness walkathon organized by Dr.Kalaivani Ganesan(Consultant- Pediatric nephrologist)Dr.Mehta’s Hospitals. Walkathon on Sunday, 15th March 2020 – at Elliot Beach covering few Kms; supported by Celebrity in association with students of various colleges to be flagged off by Celebrity. More than 500 students will take part in this walkathon to create awareness. This gesture is for a vivid reminder that regular simple health care facilities are available across the globe for early identification and prevention to reduce the risk of developing kidney disease in children in particular.
