World Kidney Day 2025 was commemorated with great enthusiasm at the Kidney Foundation Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka on March 13, 2025, under the theme: “Are Your Kidneys OK? Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health.” The event highlighted the critical importance of early detection and prevention of kidney disease. The programme comprised two engaging segments, beginning with a vibrant rally, followed by an informative seminar.
National professor A.K. Azad Khan, President, Bangladesh Diabetic association, Chairman, Bangladesh University of Health Science, Chairman, Health Sector Reform Commission, Interim Government of Bangladesh was present as Chief guest discussed the main cause of the kidney disease and its prevention. Prof. Syed Zakir Hossain, Line Director, Non-Communicable Disease Control (NCDC), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) & Prof. Shoel Reza Choudhury, Professor & Head of Department Epidemiology & Research, National Heart Foundation and Research Institute, Dhaka were present as special guests in this seminar. They discussed what action has been taken by the current government. In this programme they also discussed about the research that has begun on kidney patients.
Prof. Harun Ur Rashid, Foundation Chairman, Kidney foundation Bangladesh shared his opinion on importance of kidney disease, about kidney health and how to keep kidneys healthy. The programme was encouraging patients to assess their risk for kidney disease through an interactive, self-assessment tool and early screening.
The event also received positive feedback from Kidney Transplant, CAPD & HD patients. This initiative helped to improve awareness of kidney health and encouraged proactive screening for early detection to reduce the global prevalence of kidney disease.
