Virinchi People’s Hospital in Hyderabad marked World Kidney Day on March 13, 2025, with a powerful program that blended education, emotional storytelling, and a call to action for organ donation. The event, attended by an estimated 400-450 people, centred on raising awareness about kidney disease and celebrating the resilience of patients.
The program began with welcome remarks from COO Mr. Davala Samueal Abraham Joshi, followed by informative speeches from Medical Director Dr. Y Krishna Mohan and Consultant Nephrologists Dr. K S Nayak, Dr. Naveen Kumar Mattewada, and Dr. Ravi Kumar N. The medical experts emphasised the importance of understanding kidney disease risk factors, adhering to preventative guidelines, and undergoing regular screening.
A particularly moving segment involved the felicitation of the family of a recent deceased organ donor. This tribute served to underscore the life-saving impact of organ donation and the urgent need for more donors. Discussions also touched upon the complexities of ABO incompatible and swap transplants.
The heart of the event lay in the inspiring narratives shared by patients who had undergone challenging transplant journeys, including ABO incompatible procedures and the management of post-transplant complications like thrombotic microangiopathy. Their stories of perseverance and successful recovery resonated deeply with the audience, offering a message of hope.
Beyond the educational and emotional aspects, the program included an entertaining magic show and an engaging quiz competition designed to increase awareness in an interactive way. Prizes were awarded to the top quiz participants.
Virinchi Hospital also took the opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of its medical staff involved in kidney care and organ donation processes.
