The Kamuzu Central Hospital Renal Unit commemorated WKD 2025 on two days. We had a t-shirt campaign starting on the 13th March where patients and members of staff were asked to wear tshirts from all previous WKD campaign that depicted awareness messages pertaining to kidney disease. This assisted in starting conversations and increased the morale and enthusiam for WKD in our unit.
On the 19th March 2025, we had a Big Walk involving patients, relatives, friends and hospital staff members. En route to back to our hosptital, stops were made to give awareness talks to the general public focusing on the theme Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health. Once back at KCH grounds, we had talks and performances (poetry, music, dancing) with our guest of honour, the Director General of our hospital, Dr Enock Ludzu. The talks covered the following topics:
-The kidney, its functions and risk factors – Sr Mayamiko Khoma
-Detect early and Protect Kidney Health – Dr Mercy Mkandawire
– Diet in CKD – Dietician Ms. Felistas Mtande
– Kidney Donor Experience – Mrs. Kaunde
– Dialysis Patient Experience and NKF rep – Mr Samuel Kumwanje
The event ended at approximately 13h00 with lunch and ongoing meaningful conversation
