The Department of Nephrology, CMCH Ludhiana, celebrated world kidney day (WKD 25) by organizing “CKD awareness walkathon” on 13th of March 2025. The objectives of WKD are to highlight that diabetes and high blood pressure are key risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD), to encourage systematic screening of all patients with diabetes and hypertension for CKD, to encourage preventive behaviors and to educate the medical professionals about their key role in screening, early detection and reducing the risk of CKD progression, particularly in high risk populations. The theme of WKD this year is “Are your kidneys OK?” detect early and protect kidney health. In accordance with the objective of WKD, the department of nephrology conducted a walkathon to raise public awareness about the risk factors of CKD. The walkathon was inaugurated by Dr. William Bhatti, the honorable Director of CMCL. The walkathon was flagged off at CMCH and concluded at Mini Rose Garden. A health talk was delivered by Dr. Jasmine Das on the various aspects of CKD, focusing primarily on the preventive measures to halt or slow the progression of kidney disease, followed by a question-and-answer session. More than a hundred people participated in the walkathon. There was great enthusiasm among the participants, which consisted of doctors, nursing students, and students of dialysis technology.
