GRANDPA KIDNEY MET WITH PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON WORLD KIDNEY DAY!
World Kidney Day, which has been celebrated worldwide for 20 years and draws attention to kidney health, was addressed in Türkiye this year with the theme of “Conscious Children, Healthy Societies”. Turkish Kidney Foundation President Timur Erk, also known as “Kidney Grandpa”, met with students at Istanbul Ataköy Mimar Sinan Primary School with TBV’s mascot roosters. Throughout the event, fun and educational activities were organized to help children gain healthy living habits.
As part of the event, TBV provided information to students on healthy nutrition, while specially prepared educational books were also distributed. Timur Erk contributed to replacing misinformation about nutrition with truth by organizing a quiz with primary school 2nd grade students. The children’s level of awareness on the subject amazed those who saw it.
Street games organized to support an active life, another critical element of a healthy life, were carried out with great enthusiasm. “World Kidney Day Champion” medals were presented to students who successfully completed the games by TBV President Timur Erk.
Speaking at the event, Timur Erk drew attention to obesity as well as protecting kidney health. “I don’t see anyone obese here today, but unfortunately Turkey is in 3rd place in obesity in Europe. We don’t want such bad championships. We must drop to 10th place in obesity in order to be a healthier society. First of all, we must reduce excessive salt and sugar consumption.” he said and received a speech from the children on this issue.
During the event, TBV’s little volunteer health ambassador Cemre Aslan made statements to raise awareness among her friends: “There is MSG as salt in junk food and this is addictive, so it is very harmful. Also, starting the day by drinking a glass of water is very beneficial for our health.”
Timur Erk drew attention to the importance of lunch boxes and said, “Don’t be fooled by bright and colorful packaging, stay away from packaged foods. Lunch boxes prepared for you by your mothers are always healthier.”
World Kidney Day events were held as part of TBV’s mission to raise healthy generations. Believing that the most valuable investment in the future is to raise conscious individuals, TBV will continue to raise social awareness with similar events.
