To mark the 20th Anniversary of the World Kidney Day and the World Kidney Day 2026, the Kidney Health International Screened over 400 participants at the Brofoyedu community in the Atwima Kwawoma District of the Ashanti Region.

Turnout for the event was very encouraging. Participants were already seated by 5am waiting for the screening team to arrive. Being the 20th Anniversary of the World Kidney Day, the event was a special one for the organization, as such a lot of effort was put into publicity.

To achieve a successful event, over fifteen churches were visited by a team made up of the Programs Manager, Mr Sylvanus Gatorwu, the Assembly man of the community, Hon Michael Kwabena Boateng and then some volunteers of the organization.

Dr. (Med) Afonah Kweku Emmanuel and Madam Hagar Dejotey were very instrumental in this year’s program and they took on several Churches to ensure that people got to know about the screening.

They educated several Churches in the community and ensured that many people in the community who were not in Churches were reached in a House-to-House exercise that was done on some Sunday mornings prior to the screening program.
These churches enjoyed education on kidney health and why they needed to partake in getting screened for early warning signs of kidney disease. The churches coorperated with the volunteers by providing further announcements on the event.
Being a special edition of the World Kidney Day event, the was the opportunity for participants to have their EGFR checked on the spot by the Bliss GVS Pharma Ltd.

Health Education

Community members who had gathered at the venue of the program were given a talk on kidney disease prevention. The Programs Manager, Mr. Sylvanus Gatorwu spent time to educate the participants on what the kidney do in the human body and the causes of kidney disease.

In answering their numerous questions, Mr Gatorwu took the time to explain how one could largely prevent kidney disease.

During the education, a parent whose daughter is living with kidney failure and on dialysis took some time to caution the audience and urged them to take advantage of the program to have themselves screened stressing the need for early detection.

In her stern words “my daughter is a nurse, we never anticipated any such thing, and we didn’t even notice that something was going on, she was sick and was treated, but her condition did not improve, by the time her kidneys were checked, the kidneys were already gone”During the screening, the Founder and Director of the Kidney Health International, Prof. Elliot Kotanteng Tannor, Director and founder of the Kidney Health International also took some time to educate the teaming crowd that had gathered. He emphasised on the need to get screened and noted that “because kidney disease does not show symptoms until it is too late, it was important at people take advantage of programs like these to know the status of their kidneys”
