Date of event

March 11, 2026 11:00

Medical students enrolled in the undergraduate program and members of the Academic League of Nephrology at Nove de Julho University will conduct a kidney disease awareness campaign on March 11, 2026, in the university clinic’s entrance hall (Vergueiro campus), as part of the institutional community outreach event. The initiative will be carried out under the supervision of Professors Benedito Jorge Pereira and Mariana Batista Pereira. This campaign has been organized annually since 2010, integrating medical education with community engagement. During the event, trained students actively approach individuals attending scheduled appointments or circulating within the clinic facilities. Participants are provided with structured information regarding chronic kidney disease (CKD), its risk factors, and preventive strategies. In addition, a standardized screening protocol is implemented, including urinalysis, capillary blood glucose measurement, capillary creatinine testing, body mass index (BMI) calculation, blood pressure assessment, and evaluation of personal and family history of kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Following initial screening, participants are referred to a supervised clinical station where collected data are reviewed and interpreted. At this stage, individualized counseling is provided, including recommendations for kidney health preservation and preventive lifestyle measures. When clinically indicated, participants are advised to seek formal medical evaluation and appropriate follow-up care.
