On 13th March, Nephrologists, Dr Niwrutti Hase and Dr Aniket Hase organised a unique programme for the healthcare workers in Mumbai’s Thane district’s Jupiter Hospital. 51 people attended. They were either dialysis tech, nurses, radiographer, laparoscopic specialist and resident doctors who were keen on understanding kidney disease, the urgent need to ensure that disease is detected early, so kidneys can be protected.
As founder of Kidney Warriors Foundation, I, Vasundhara Raghavan, was called upon to talk about Patient Advocacy. Sharp rise in chronic kidney disease was a concern to be addressed sharp rise made it imperative to focus on various ways to communicate and drive a change. Screening, talks in schools on food choices and kidney care and also organising multi specialists meetings to talk to people with diabetes, hypertension and obesity to help them make lifestyle modifications and right food choices.
Mansi Anekar, caregiver to a 14 year old son spoke about her work with to get schooling for the needy pediatric dialysis warriors.
Renal dietitian shared the ideal nutrition for people with kidney disease.
