The theme for World Kidney Day 2025 is “Are Your Kidneys OK?”, which highlights that many conditions currently seen, especially in the adult population, such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes, can affect the kidneys from a very early age. If you don’t check your kidneys, you might never know if they are functioning properly. This phrase encourages us to recognize the kidneys as vital organs for health and to embrace the idea of prevention. By looking for early signs, we may find small indicators that can help maintain kidney health for a longer time.
General Objective:
To educate children and their families about kidney health, promoting healthy habits for the prevention of kidney diseases, and management strategies for those with pre-existing conditions.
Specific Objectives:
1. Promote awareness about the importance of regular urination habits and their benefits for kidney health.
2. Encourage children and their families to prefer water over sugary drinks.
3. Provide accessible information on glomerulopathies and other kidney diseases, along with strategies to prevent their progression.
Proposed Activities:
1. Educational Talks in Schools:
– Organize interactive sessions to teach children about kidneys and their function.
– Include games and visual materials to maintain interest.
2. Workshops for Parents:
– Information sessions for parents on early detection and prevention of kidney diseases.
– Practical advice on how to manage kidney conditions in their children.
3. Smart Hydration Campaign:
– Distribute reusable water bottles to children with motivational messages.
– Encourage the installation of water stations in schools.
4. Monitoring and Prevention Program:
– Create a reminder system for keeping track of urination habits.
– Collaboration with health centers for regular check-ups and personalized advice.
5. Educational Materials:
– Develop brochures, animated videos, and mobile applications that teach about kidney health in a fun and educational way. We will create videos to be published on the hospital’s website, featuring children talking about how to manage their kidney health. For example, a child with nephrotic syndrome explaining protein loss in urine, and so on. This activity will be supported by the hospital’s journalism and video department.
Impact Evaluation:
– Surveys before and after interventions to measure the increase in knowledge about kidney health.
– Tracking changes in children’s hydration and urination habits who attend pediatric nephrology consultations.
– Evaluation of the participation of children and families in organized activities.
Expected Results:
– Greater awareness and knowledge about the importance of kidney care from childhood.
– Improvement in daily habits related to kidney health among children and their families.
– Reduction in the incidence and progression of kidney problems in participants.
