Nephrologists from the 5 main regions of Lithuania, shared the material of the World Kidney Day (special posters, flyers prepared by the nephrologists about drug dosing in chronic kidney disease and obesity, evaluation of kidney function), and gave lectures to medical doctors in hospitals and family centers, raising awareness to the link between obesity and kidney damage; articles about this subject were published in regional press. The main events were held in Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania. Doctors, nurses and patients from all over the country participated in the conference: “Obesity and kidney diseases”. Nephrologists, endocrinologists and dietologists gave lectures about obesity and its risks, treatment and prevention. The lecture of the surgeon who has been involved in the surgical treatment of obesity for many years, received a lot of attention and questions from the audience. The surprise of the conference was a special “lecture”: 15 minutes of which all the participants exercised under the guidance of the specialist to the sound of energetic music. Lithuania main media journalists attended the press conference given by nephrologists. The story of the patient who lost 25 kilograms in order to get kidney transplant appeared in newspapers and websites, and inspired many readers to fight obesity.
