Support World Obesity Day & Act Today For A Healthier Future!

On October 11, 2016 World Kidney Day will support World Obesity Day!

World Obesity Day is an annual campaign established in 2015 by the World Obesity Federation (WOF). This initiative aims at stimulating and supporting practical actions that will help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reverse the global obesity crisis.

Each year, WOF chooses a specific theme for the campaign and this year World Obesity Day (WOD) will focus on “Childhood Obesity”. In most countries of the world, child and adolescent obesity has risen severely, with only few countries taking action to fight this damaging health issue that has lifelong consequences on health, educational attainment and quality of life.

World Obesity Day will highlight the need for action and the role everyone can play in ending childhood obesity, to ensure a healthier future for all.

Obesity is an important risk factor for the development of kidney disease and increases the risk of developing major contributors to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). This is why World Kidney Day is proud to join World Obesity Day and the calls for implementation of prevention, education and awareness on the risk of obesity and the need for a healthy lifestyle

World Kidney Day 2017 will focus on the relationship between kidney disease and obesity. Although it is now widely recognised that obesity increases the risk, both directly and indirectly, of a variety of devastating chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, we believe that the crucial role obesity plays in the development and progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is poorly recognised.

Education and awareness of the risks of obesity and healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and exercise, can dramatically help in preventing obesity and kidney disease.

Are you ready to take part in this great initiative? World Obesity Day invites you to get involved various ways, from reaching out to Health Ministers and media, to organizing events and spreading their message through social media.
