Hi Maria,
Thank you for your kind response, also, that to Mario to whom you had responded concerning his query as to your axreening for PKU among members of your aboriginal population. I am in the process of attempting to upload an article that I had written, published in the British journal,
Ancient Biomolecules, concerning a method I had devised for the nondestructive recovery of ancient DNA from teeth. While
the work addressed by this article was with
mtDNA, (the population of study was from the Heiheru cemetery at the Anyang site in China, the third capital of the Shang Dynasty (1047 -- 1300 BC), the signal from the dentin-derived aDNA may be sufficient such that nuclear DNA assays may be performed on remains of a more recent vintage. Studies of patients' antecedants may be useful to gain insights as to patterns of heritability of certain genetic markers.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

Dra. Bianchi,

Happy New year!!! And thanks!

We are studying proteinuria in children, to know when this exprssion begins.
Going on with detection, of course.
We think eductation is the strategy. So we are trying to make themselves think about their parent´s habits and nowadays... A big challenge. The photo shows one of the classes in the forest!. We are buying 700 tensiometes to give them to detect HTA, as we believe they are salt sensitive, - they did not use salt till 1900...

Maria Eugenia thank you for sharing with us your story. I find you work with the aborigen population in Argentina fascinating. I had the oportunity to read the summary of your article "Epidemiology of Renal and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Toba Aborigines" and the conclussions are significant because it appear that CKD in related to obesity, hypertension but not diabetes. Do you mind to send me the full article?

Hi Maria...I'm an anthropologist, albeit molecular, and am very interested in the aborigial populations with whom you work! Among Native Americans, the so-called "thrifty gene" is not uncommon. It is noted, particularly, among the Pima, and, to a great extent, Athabaskan and other northern peoples. Regrettably, it is almost cliche to mention that Diabetes type 2 is nearly omnipresent among these populations. Do you, in addition to treating diabetic nephropathy, perform any DNA assays to screen for heritable kidney diseases?

I very much look forward to hearing more about your work...
