WORLD KIDNEY DAY in SOUTH AFRICA
AWARENESS and EDUCATION
The National Kidney Foundation of South Africa (NKFSA) will be doing public talks on the function and care of the kidneys at the following events:
Posters and Pamphlets will be distributed to institutions/organisations that wish to distribute these in celebration of WKD 2011.
EDUCATION and SCREENING
A Schools Kidney Disease Prevention and Screening Programme will be held at three different schools:
- St Stithians Girls’ College in Johannesburg
This programme includes educational talks on the role and functions of the kidneys as well as a talk on healthy living and exercise. After the talks the senior learners will have the opportunity to take part in a free and voluntary screening programme. This project is funded through a grant from the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund.
SCREENING
Selected Clicks Store Clinics will be taking part in the provision of free screening to the public. The results from this will be collected and collated for use in a broader epidemiological study.
AWARENESS
The Cape Kidney Association will be hosting exhibitions in at least 3 shopping centres for the duration of the week of WKD 2011. Posters will be displayed and pamphlets will be available to the public.
PUBLICITY
Press release and articles from the WKD 2011 will be sent to the major newspapers, magazines and media groups. Several publications have already requested information on WKD 2011 and the information was supplied.
